In the very special former monastery complex "De Voorzienigheid" with its rich history, is located this unique residential house of no less than 308 m2. This beautiful flat was architecturally converted in 2017 to the wishes of the owner who was able to practise his artist profession in his home studio. The base of the house is robust and modern and finished with high-quality materials in keeping with the times, however, the eccentric details in the house give this house just the atmosphere that makes it both unique and spectacular. The supporting structural posts are sheathed in carved totem poles from West Papua, and the height of the loft is further emphasised by the 5-metre-high totem pole that stands out beautifully in the daylight from the large windows.
The current aesthetic finish is very basic and will have to be converted to contemporary comfort. This means that the house is ready for an aesthetic renovation where a very efficient layout can be made on the first floor that can be finished to your own taste and desire. There is also the possibility of enlarging the attic floor which will create more square metres. The attached Artist Impressions give a very good idea of the possibilities of the house.
Besides having to finish the upper floors aesthetically, the house already has the desirable comforts to offer. For example, there is access to an indoor parking garage with space for 2 cars, there is a platform lift to the first floor, a wide and sunny south-east-facing garden (approximately 76 m2), renewed foundations in 2017, renewed plumbing and electrics, well insulated, own land and there is currently already a hybrid heat pump and solar panels.
Layout:
The property is located on the ground floor, first floor and attic floor and has the following layout:
Ground floor:
Entrance, modern vestibule, hallway, entry into the very spacious and bright living room with loft on the garden side, which, due to the high windows, provides particularly bright light. The modern open kitchen is equipped with various built-in appliances, including a quooker and combi microwave oven. Next to the kitchen is a room that lends itself perfectly as a pantry or study. The beautiful window frames to the garden further emphasise the room's 3-metre ceiling height. The garden is southeast facing and has lovely morning/early afternoon sun shining beautifully into the living room. From the living room there is a passage to the garage where 2 small cars can be parked with ease, or a slightly larger car combined with a biro or a cargo bike. The garage has a direct entrance from the street. Getting to the 1st floor can be done by means of the spiral staircase in the dining room that leads to the front bedroom, or by means of the modern oak-wood staircase at the back of the house, or the adjacent plateau lift that leads to the first floor.
First floor:
The rear staircase leads to the windowed landing, Yoga room with adjacent very spacious studio space with a ridge height of 5.46 metres. This is equipped with 2 large skylights so that one could possibly think of creating another attic floor above it. On the side of the loft overlooking the garden is the walk-in wardrobe and next to it the bathroom equipped with shower, double washbasin and a toilet. At the front is the second very spacious bedroom connected to the dining room by the spiral staircase. Stairs to the attic floor:

Providence history
The congregation 'The Poor Sisters of the Divine Child' was founded in 1852, and ran a home for neglected girls up to 12 years old in the Jordaan under the name founded De Voorzienigheid. Also known as the foundation of St Jerome and Aemilian.
Founder was parish priest Petrus Hesseveld. In 1858, the sisters started a wafer bakery, which would grow into a factory that baked 600,000 wafers every week and celebrated its centenary in 1958.
The Providence complex also included schools and orphanages, occupying much of the block between Lauriergracht, Konijnenstraat and Elandsstraat in the first half of the 20th century. It also included the building that now has the legendary house number 37: there was a teacher training school there.
In 1991, the last sisters moved to Heemstede.
The complex has a complicated building history, with several conversions and extensions. Several Catholic architects helped build it: Bleys, Duncker and Joling.
